One of the individuals credited with paving the way for today’s online casino industry will make a special appearance this year at the Global Interactive Gaming Summit and Expo. Commonly known as the GIGSE, the Summit will be held from May 16-18 and is expected to attract a who’s who in the online casinos world. Professor Lawrence Lessig will deliver an address that deals with regulating the borderless online casino industry – a topic that has been at the centre of debate in the industry this year.
Professor Lessig is one of the world’s first experts on owning digital communication and is the founder of Stanford University’s Center for Internet and Society. He is the author of several books that have influenced the online casinos industry, including “Cyberlaw” and “Free Culture: How Big Media Uses Technology.” In his lecture at the online casinos event, Lessig will focus on the unique issues the industry faces, including protectionism versus free speech. The title of his address has also given the pro-online casinos movement a boost in its battle against potential U.S. legislation. Professor Lessig’s address “Regulation Will Happen: The Leviathan Is Coming – The Only Question Now is How” is expected to draw a record number of attendees.
Last year GIGSE attracted nearly 2,000 participants from 45 countries. The online casinos event is sponsored this year by Wire Card. A further 120 operators of online casinos companies will be exhibiting or sponsoring activities at the event’s tradeshow.
